Infusing alcohol is an easy, delicious, and natural way to flavor spirits like vodka, tequila, gin, rum, and bourbon with any number of ripe fruits, vegetables, fresh herbs, fragrant spices, and aromatic botanicals. All alcohol infusions require is a little creativity, your spirit and additives of choices, a few tools of the trade, and minimal prep work. Most the infusion process is hands off; you just have to be patient while chemistry works its magic!
If you’re new to make your own spirits, our handy guide to infusing alcohol will give you the background you need to try your hand at flavoring spirits at home or at your commercial bar. Depending on what you intend to flavor your spirit with, you shouldn’t need more than a good knife, peeler, muddler, funnel, strainer, and a couple of Mason jars to get started.
Infused spirits can be served neat, on the rocks, or in a cocktail, and jars of infused spirits make excellent gifts. You can even add simple syrup to taste to make a homemade liqueur.
Sure, you can buy flavored alcohol at the liquor store, but the mass-produced, artificial stuff doesn’t hold a candle to the spirits infused in small batches, the old fashioned way.
